The Greer Dawson Student Leadership Program

was established on the campus of Hampton University during the 1975-76 academic school year. Dr. Greer Wilson, who was the former Director of Student Activities, founded this program with the goal of obtaining a unitary body of Hampton University's elite students. The program was composed of students who were a viable component of the University's efforts. They were intended to serve as mentors in order to retain and motivate underclassmen students. Now with an alumni base of more than 2,900 graduates, the program has been replicated at several high schools, colleges, and universities throughout the nation. The Greer Dawson Wilson Student Leadership Program is a service-learning and leadership-based program that plays vital component in the holistic development of Hampton University students. This is done by providing community service experiences and interpersonal and leadership skills training opportunities. Student Leaders are campus and community service-oriented people. In summary the purpose of the Student Leadership Program is to provide peer mentors for entering freshmen, offer service by serving as ushers and facilitators to major events at Hampton University community, and to provide leadership training to student within the program that can be implemented throughout life. The Student Leaders develop and host an array of activities that aim to enhance the Hampton experience
