The William R. Harvey Leadership Institute
was founded in the Fall of 2000. It was the vision of Dr. William R. Harvey, Hampton University’s President to create an institute designed to develop leaders who will go on to make a positive difference in society, regardless of their chosen profession. He envisioned the program as one that, “emphasizes integrity, honesty, respect for others, decency, dignity and responsibility.” The objective is measured and achieved through the use of Dr. Harvey’s Ten Step Leadership Model. Through this, Dr. Harvey’s goal is to prepare exceptional students for leadership roles in their professions and in their community. He recently donated $100,000 to the university to provide scholarships for students taking classes in its leadership institute. Harvey and his wife Norma donated the funds in honor of Harvey's late father, W. D. C. Harvey. Where the W.D. C. Harvey Scholarship was named after. Recipients of the scholarship, such as myself are able to receive a scholarship that carries over the years, as well as they obtain an 18-hour minor in minor in leadership studies from the William R. Harvey Leadership Institute.
